This is nothing new.

Trolling is still coming from all angles, in order to make r/btc, the English-speaking community that is openly discussing Bitcoin (BTC + BCH), look as unwelcoming to curious lurkers as possible. The purpose of this is to delay adoption of BCH, the real honey badger.

The “new” page of the forum is always flooded with sh*tposts.

We have evolved slightly from the “bcash bcash bcash bcash bcash” comments of several months ago to something that looks like:

  • “I don’t mind bcash being useful for payments but the marketing and the people behind it in my opinion are just scammy and untrustworthy…”
  • “Now don’t get me wrong, I am a supporter of BCH too, but I think this community is toxic and stupid blah blah blah…”
  • “r/btc is just as bad as r/bitcoin because while one is heavily moderated, here I am just as badly censored due to downvoting (wah) and my ability to post is limited to every ten minutes (wah)…”

The job and joy of trolls is also to amplify any existing minor drama and fan the flames (on both sides) until it becomes major drama.

Although it is challenging to defend a community forum from a daily onslaught of trolling and propaganda, we can try to model in our interactions (for the benefit of lurkers):

  • politeness
  • respect
  • humility

as much as possible, even when dealing with the dumbest and most persistent of trolls.

Or if you’re having a bad day, maybe just stick to downvoting or ignoring obvious trolls (rather than feeding them by losing your temper, which makes them very happy).
