Well, if you’ve been on r/btc or crypto twitter today, this has already been exposed to death, but I thought I’d document it for posterity, because of how incredulous I felt when viewing this apparently sincere (not satirical) proclamation, Matrix-inspired imagery and all.
Source: A slide from Giacomo Zucco’s “Bitcoin Maximalism Dissected” talk from The Baltic Honeybadger 2018 (conference). You can waste your time by watching it here (start at around 11:30, end at 46:00). I sacrificed my time to view the primary source, just for you guys (and to verify Giacomo’s sincerity). I do wish to understand where someone like Giacomo is coming from.
tl;dw: Giacomo believes that “bcashers” (BCH supporters) are either malicious or stupid. He highlighted his own tweet storm (from May 2018) which was in response to Chris Pacia‘s offer of discussion. Giacomo received a lot of validation from BTC twitter for his tweet storm (1000+ likes!) and on r/bitcoin (top post!). He goes on to ridicule Vitalik Buterin, re-frame “Bitcoin Maximalism” as “shitcoin minimalism”, and do lots of name-dropping of his friends’ tweets. He delivers “The Four Universal Truths” above with a straight face, acknowledging that they might be initially be interpreted as dogmatic or rude. But, if you don’t believe that these are true, you are wrong (and you are free to be wrong). And then he goes on about a laundry list of talking points to flesh out his speech (e.g. hard vs. easy, immaculate conception, scam definition, etc.).
p.s. I’m a little bit sorry to be contributing to the echo-chamberiness of Bitcoin discussions, and am fully aware that I drew this doodle partially to be validated by those who intellectually oppose Giacomo’s narrative.
p.p.s. The doodle that I originally wanted to publish today was postponed. Version one was not satisfactory and it’s a special one, so I’ll be re-doing it a.s.a.p. That’s what happens when you get out of daily practice.
